I don't understand how someone could think that building a gym twice the size of my studio apartment for 12,000+ students to workout would ever be a good idea. The amount of benches to student ratio is literally 1:2000, (1:3000 if you want to workout safely) which is about the same chance you have in finding a time to workout, unless you're an incarnate of Jesus Christ himself. For the bench press benches, I'm pretty certain the rack was made by a somebody who fails to grasp basic geometry, making the rack the same length as the barbell sleeves, therefore leading to a workout that cannot be completed safely

Great price, has necessary equipment, is clean, helpful staff. Can get very full, does not have a pool, and (considering residences are close and students are often busy during the day) the gym’s hours (especially weekend hours) could be extended. Overall I do enjoy working out here!

The instructors and staff here are awesome! The group fitness classes are super fun! My only complaint is that the ubco recreation website is very unmanaged. Classes are missing descriptions and are often assigned the wrong room number. When a class is cancelled the website does not get updated. Also, their instagram has very little information. And it is even difficult to discern the in-person classes from the virtual classes on the schedule. If the website was updated and consistently managed I would give 5 stars.

Tonight I went there for a workout after a long time. The place was packed, and literally no one was wearing a mask. To make things worse people were working out in large groups with their friends bunched up around one or two machines (basically a recipe for transmission of covid). Unbelievable that a university would create such an obviously risky environment and completely ignores public health orders.

this gym is full of those people that use three machines at the same time, while not letting anyone use them. there are also those people who use the machines for 2 minutes and take breaks for 15 min. Other annoying thing is that there is no machines for chest and almost five for back. The gym is very cheap tho, and the equipment are mostly very good.
