Do yourself a favour, avoid this place!! After what felt like hours of walking through dark, smelly hallways to finally reach our room, my sister and I were appalled at what we saw when we got into our room. Very unclean, stains everywhere and the room smelt horrible. Went back to the front desk to tell them about the room and they gave us a new room in the tower. We made our way around to the back and attempted to enter the tower - 3 different times our keys wouldn’t work. After many trips back to the front desk, our keys finally worked. Our room in the tower was better than the dungeon, but still very disappointing for what your paying per night. Our sheets had stains on it (unacceptable!! These are white sheets - soak those babies in bleach) the blinds had a good layer of dirt and dust on them. Paint was chipping all over and the AC unit sounded like it was about to explode. I understand that the Sandman might not be the fanciest hotel out there, but for what you’re paying I’d expect things to at least be clean and kept up. We ended up cutting our trip short due to our experience at the hotel. When I talked to front desk the day we checked out early, she just shrugged her shoulders and told us she hoped our day turns around.
The hotel is clean and the staff friendly, helpful and pleasant. The atrium with pool in the middle of the hotel is lovely and different from the average indoor pool area of most hotels, adding a visual appeal. My only dislike is the TV doesn't allow you to manually change the channel by inputting the channel number in order to get to the program you want, nor is the channel number displayed on screen, so you're manually tapping channel up or channel down on your remote to find something to watch. It's a little thing but it could be improved to enhance time spent in the room.
Lack of service from housekeeping and staff. Called front desk for extra towels twice within 2 hours as nothing was brought to the room. Had to go to front desk to request towels and was finally helped. Asked for beds to be made and sheets changed at 8am as we were leaving for a few hours. Returned at 12pm and still nothing was done. Went to front desk again and they found someone in another ~20m. Pool was extremely dirty and sandy and eventually shut down the day of checkout. Each time walking by the front desk there appeared to be other guests with similar issues and complaints regarding overall cleanliness and service. Stay was 2 nights and had a corporate partner discount.. even with the discounted stay the value and quality of this Sandman location is questionable at best.
Our room was good. Lots of room with a fridge, but the TV did not have a digital cable box and it took forever to scroll through the lack of channels that were available. The bathroom ceiling paint was chipping away and the shower spout was oddly at face level. Check in was very frustrating and the staff didn't seem to know how to work there visa machine and I had to attempt multiple card to get checked in. Pool area is nice, but hot tub Jacuzzi jet switch was removed for some reason.
We stay at this hotel multiple times a year and every year for work, sometimes we work nights. Very comfortable and relaxing, lots of parking. Even with a pool in use by other patrons I've never had a problem with noise and always got a good night's sleep. I will be bringing my family here for the same relaxing atmosphere however we'll be useing the pool. Looking forward to all the amenities and the shopping conveniently located near by.
